May Lott Updates

We want to take a moment to thank everyone who makes the life-changing work at Lott possible.

April was a full and meaningful month — one that reminded us how much can be accomplished through collaboration and shared purpose. Together, we are enhancing lives, strengthening businesses, and enriching the Toledo community.

Here are just a few of the partnerships making an impact on Hill Ave:

Lott’s Urban Farm — Spring planting is underway, with a goal of harvesting more than 5,000 pounds of produce this season. Through our partnership with Food for Thought, this food reaches families across the Toledo community.

Lott’s Wetlands Project — In partnership with the Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District, our back property is being restored to its natural state — helping reduce runoff and protect Lake Erie.

The Inspiration Kitchen — We’re grateful for the TIK team and the opportunity to host a truly life-changing program within our Lott kitchen.

Shred-A-Thon — Thank you to 13 ABC for partnering with us to securely shred and recycle thousands of pounds of paper, helping keep our community green.

We’re also deeply thankful for our business partners who support our work floor — creating meaningful employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to learn, grow, and earn.

To our generous donors: your support fuels everything we do, from life skills training and job coaching to placement and community engagement.

To everyone who partners with us, thank you! You’re an essential part of this mission, helping people of all abilities thrive in Toledo.

Enhancing Lives

When you visit Lott, the heart of our building is the work floor. If you’ve taken a tour, you’ve likely experienced it firsthand — filled with conversation, connection, and plenty of smiles.

While we often highlight the business partnerships that make this space possible, this month we want to focus on its purpose and the impact it has on the lives of those we serve.

At Lott, our goal is to help adults with developmental disabilities grow in independence, whatever that may look like for them. For some, that means building life skills — learning computers, exploring creativity through art, or developing healthy lifestyle routines. For others, it means preparing for and maintaining meaningful employment that supports independent living.

Our work floor is both a place of training and a place of opportunity. We serve dozens of customers over a variety of industries, which provides a wide variety of work options and experiences. Some individuals choose to build long-term careers here, finding consistency, purpose, and a community where they are known and valued. Others use it as a stepping stone, gaining the skills and confidence needed to transition into jobs within the community.

No matter the path, our commitment is the same: to support each person in reaching their goals and living as independently as possible.

Transforming Businesses

A business partnership we’re proud of is with Erie Steel. They provide a range of heat treating services for both large manufacturers and smaller needs.

What we value most about this partnership is the opportunity it creates. We complete contract work for Erie Steel on our work floor on Hill Avenue, and we also have two work teams working directly at their facility.

This partnership is a powerful example of the opportunities available to the adults we serve, both within our building and out in the community. Through Erie Steel, individuals gain real work experience and meaningful employment, enhancing their lives while also supporting local business.

Enriching Communities

Thank you the Toledo community for showing up at our Shred-A-Thon that took place on April 23rd.
